Welcome to our Historic Inn

Your hosts, Ben and Sonja, invite you to take a
streaming tour of the Inn
Oceanside Meadows Inn is an
historic sea captains home c. 1860 standing on 200 acres at the head of Sand
Cove in picturesque Prospect Harbor. Built by Captain George Allen the inn was
placed close to the white sand beach at the head of the bay, so that summer
guests could enjoy the relaxing sound of the surf and the cool sea breezes.
Local resident and dear friend Frances Wood remembers staying with her Great
Uncle George as a small child
during her summer vacations, and recalls the many house guests
that would visit from Boston and New York to summer on the ocean.
Inside
the inn you are reminded of the buildings history and original
owner. The travels of the sea captain are reflected in furnishing
which would have been collected during his voyages around the
globe. Inlaid screens from the east, a magnificent carved elephant
from India, fine furnishings from England and many pieces
reminiscent of the ports of Boston and New York. Several models
of grand sailing ships of the day adorn the main living room,
which commands spectacular views of the bay and crashing surf. In
the evenings a large fire place bathes the room with a warm glow
creating a welcoming atmosphere conducive to conversation, while
marshmallows are roasted and hot chocolate enjoyed after a day of
fresh air and adventures on the peninsula.
Retiring to your room
you will find comfortable queen or king sized beds, memorable
views of the ocean, meadows and gardens with the sounds of nature
all around. The trickling of two streams that run by the side of
the inn and the sound of the surf will lull you to sleep. All our
rooms have private bathrooms with either showers or tubs. We have
a large suite that has a queen sized bed, its own living room
area as well as a small room adjoining that has two twin beds
that is ideal as a dressing room if you are not traveling with
children. This room is favored as a special treat for
honeymooners, spanning the house the room has a total of eight
windows offering views over the bay, meadows`and gardens. All the
inn rooms are all well sized and comfortable, attention has been
made to small details that will make your stay on the coast of
Maine a relaxing respite away in your home away from home.
Also on our
estate is the large 1820's farmhouse, that commands super views of the beach and
offers seven further bedrooms all with private bathrooms. Additionally there is
a large living room with fireplace to warm you on cool nights, a spacious dining
room and kitchen, all with views of the ocean. This building is perfect for
parties that want to stay in an historic inn and experience all that it offers
but also want the opportunity of preparing some of their own meals. One of the
bedrooms in the farmhouse offers spectacular views over the bay, has a cathedral
ceiling and french doors that open onto a private verandah overlooking the
beach. This large room has a king sized bed and the sound of the surf to lull
you to sleep at night. All the other rooms in this historic house are
individually appointed, offer ocean or meadow views, queen sized beds and
private bathrooms. We have found that guests with specific dietary requirements,
that are catered to by our inn and many local restaurants, also enjoy the extra
luxury that having a fully equiped kitchen offers.
Guests
at the inn wake to the sun rising
across the bay, the sound of birds all around and the occasional sighting of
moose that stroll onto the beach to feed on seaweed brought on the last tide.
Gourmet breakfasts are served daily and are available to all our guests staying
both in the sea captains home and the farmhouse.
Sonja's very
special three or four course breakfasts are served in the colonial house dinning
rooms, where guests gather for a wonderful culinary experience which often
includes exquisite chilled soups, fresh homemade muffins and breads, waffles,
pancakes, soufflés, baked eggs to name just a few of her extensive repertoire of
wonderful dishes. A perfect way to begin your day in Down East Maine as you
watch lobster boats ply the Atlantic Ocean just yards away.
There are
lots of things to do while on the peninsula. Our unique sandy beach is
a great place to have a picnic, lay in the sun or take a dip in the refreshing
Atlantic. Explore the rugged coastline, tidal pools, and lighthouses; spot an
eagle or osprey overhead; try sea kayaking , yachting or fresh water canoeing.
Join us for croquet on the lawn; relax in the flower gardens or curl up by the
fire with a good book or parlor game.

We look forward to welcoming you.
